PA legislature says no to vouchers
Score one for keeping public dollars in public schools. Last week, the Pennsylvania Legislature rejected a bill to allow the creation of a voucher program in the state of Pennsylvania, despite considerable support for the program from Republican Governor Tom Corbett and Republican leadership in the legislature.
The pro-voucher bill managed to pass the Pennsylvania Senate in October, but did not clear the House this past week. To boot, the House also voted down a backdoor voucher mechanism - the Education Improvement Tax Credit - that would have supported private schools by giving tax credits to corporations that fund student scholarships.
