Arkansas Advocacy and Organizing Month!
In case we needed any further proof that advocacy and organizing do make a difference, a report from the National Committee for Responsible Philanthropy says that for every dollar invested in advocacy in the Gulf/Mid-South states, communities saw a $114 return on the investment.
That's certainly cause to celebrate, and the Arkansas-based Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation is on it! Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe has declared October to be Arkansas Advocacy & Organizing Month, and Winthrop Rockefeller has joined with grassroots organizing groups and advocacy organizations (many of whom we're proud to partner with in the Arkansas Opportunity to Learn Campaign) to celebrate the positive impact advocay has on communities and the change it can inspire.
The other organizations joining Winthrop Rockefeller include: Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, Arkansas Coalition for Excellence, Arkansas Public Policy Panel, Center for Artistic Revolution, Northwest Arkansas Workers' Justice Center, Rural Community Alliance, and Southern Bancorp. (Click on each organization to learn more about the fantastic work they do in their communities and across the state.)
And check out this video from Winthrop Rockefeller's 2011 Annual Report, "Why Arkansas: The Case for Change," for examples of how Arkansas's advocacy community has served as a voice for progress:
