Girls' Equity Highlighted in New Video: "It's Our Time"
Posted on: Tuesday January 8th, 2013
Who better to talk about the challenges and opportunities young women of color face in education than the young women themselves?
That's the thinking behind the Wellesley Centers for Women project "Promoting Public Awareness of the Road to Educational Equity for Girls of Color: A Multi-level Strategy."
The just released short film, "It's Our Time: The Empathy Gap for Girls of Color," is the fruit of that project. It features members of the Boston-based Teen Voices, a journalism mentoring program for young women, "as the experts and agents of their own learning experiences, offering examples of effective strategies and solutions for closing the opportunity gap." The goal of the project is to promote public discourse about barriers to educational equity for girls of color and push for change in education policy and practice. And wow does this video do just that!
